My Incredible Semester Abroad
I can say it was an unexpected story in my life of being abroad for the very first time(Myanmar) for four months. Why I say it was an unexpected story? Because I just an average student in the class. Moreover, I always make everyone laugh when I told them that I will apply for the scholarship. But I never forget the word my dad told me “If you fail and you give up it not a son, please take all negative voice around you to create your new positive result.” Every successful person is starting from their mistakes. So I have to do it first before I say I can’t do it.“Even though I know nothing about Myanmar but I feel home again when I first arrived on the golden land of Burmese people. They are very friendly, welcome and helpful. when I fact with difficulties both my academic study also my life in Mandalay. They always help me to solve those problems. Moreover, I learn that my classmate and I humbly share our knowledge and thoughts in discussions and make sure everyone gains benefit and knowledge from the discussions. I can it just a small example of ASEAN people.” Now I can’t find any word to describe my feeling during my mobility in Myanmar. It such an incredible experience and many unexpected stories happened in my life. During this one semester period, I spent in ASEAN country, I learned a lot of things and it not only my academic study, but I also learned about the new culture and new languages, Furthermore, I learned how to adapt with new people from different nation and religion. It is the best way to help me to build my confidence and
self-development to interact with locals as much as I could. Especially, it is an incredible guide
for me to step into the ASEAN community with a strong network line.
Why is student mobility important in ASEAN? First of all, I think it creates a truly regional experience during its mobility because it makes awardees from various countries, who have different cultures and custom, be together to form a unity. Second, after finishing the student mobility, I think most of them will get a lot of academic experiences including self- performance, confidence and motivation. Based on my experience, in Cambodia we have already started to create a SHARE Alumni Association of Cambodia, it is a way that we can encourage and motivate our next generation to step into the world by using education, and it also, the bridge to connect Cambodia students and another student in ASEAN. I cannot imagine how our beautiful ASEAN can be in the next 10 years or 20 years when we make all students in ASEAN have a very close connection and work together to achieve one common goal.
I think EU SHARE-Scholarship is a wonderful scholarship for ASEAN students, and it became a well know scholarship from each batch to another, it also provides the best chance for all awardee to learn more about people, culture, food and so on... in ASEAN. The word from my heart “I’m really proud of myself that people love me and call me big brother (brother) even though I’m not perfect with English for communication in the foreign country, especially one of my classmate told me that “Piseth! you know? You are the first international student who comes to Mandalay with a kindly mind, friendly, easy going and more respect to the other” all this sentence is still in my mind I’m really happy and it will stay in my heart forever. I think maybe I am a person who has a good relationship with all national and international awardee from difference country who study in MU.
Finally, I would like to suggest students to try your best to apply for all kind of scholarship even it EU or ASEAN scholarship, do it today to make your better life in the future and help your young generation to get a higher education.” My recommendation to students if you were abroad please think that you are not only your personality, but you are a representative of Cambodia. So you must try your best to promote your nation. Ones again “If you really want it please use your heart to get it don’t say without taking action, your opportunity is in your hand.”
